A rich fishing tradition continues

It is that time of year again, and the Port Aransas Boatmen’s Association is thrilled to host the 88th Deep Sea Roundup. We are continually overwhelmed by the generosity of our community and the many generations of anglers who make the trip to fish and support this historical tournament. From our trophy sponsors to those donating raffle and silent auction items, as well as our major sponsors and numerous volunteers, we could not be more appreciative.

The weigh-in will be held at Roberts Point Park Pavilion. The city has done a wonderful job rebuilding this area after the damage sustained during Hurricane Harvey. Our piggy perch contest will also be held at the pavilion. We encourage our young anglers to bring a bucket and towel. PABA will provide poles, hooks, and bait. Black Tie Catering will offer refreshments on Saturday after fishing when we will distribute t-shirts to our piggy perch contestants and get the annual picture which is one of our favorite traditions.
Even if you aren’t fishing in the tournament, you can still join in on the fun! Visit the Civic Center starting at 2 pm Thursday and Friday or Saturday evening to purchase this year’s tournament merch, bid on our fantastic silent auction items (you need not be present to win), and enjoy delicious food and an open bar. Dinner tickets are $20 for non-registered participants. Refer to this guide for catering and bar schedule. Also, please join us on the dock Friday and Saturday during weigh-in. Cold drinks will be available under the new pavilion, where you can relax and watch the anglers show off their catch.

Each year, the Deep Sea Roundup honors the memory of those we have lost in our community. This year, we remember Mary Ann Heimann, Ginger Henley, Dianne Niemann, Mary Ann Flood, Judy Lyle, Una Farley, Carl “Toots” Moore, Doc Garrett, Jack Nichols, TC Nixon, Mark Grosse, Barney Farley III, Dr. Gary W. Brackeen, Tim Hansen and Dennin “Denny” Peterson. We invite the family and friends of these individuals to join us on Sunday during the awards ceremony, where we will have special seating up front and honor their memory with a token of appreciation.

Thank you all for participating and supporting this historic tournament. We look forward to seeing you all!
