A rich fishing tradition continues

Welcome to the 87th Annual Deep Sea Round Up. We hope you are ready for a good time.  Seeing that nostalgic 87 and knowing that 100 years is right around the corner is truly amazing.   No matter the challenges, you have been there.  Every person, organization, or business making new memories participating, sponsoring, volunteering, and celebrating to help support our mission and keep this tradition thriving is what this event is all about. We could never thank you all enough.

For the first time in as long as we can remember, the tournament is being held the weekend before the 4th of July. We understand this was a challenge for many who schedule their vacations around attending the Roundup, but unfortunately was something that could not be avoided given conflicts and miscommunication with other tournaments.  We appreciate the city working with us to reschedule and make resources available for the new dates. There is a lot of coordination in hosting the Deep Sea Roundup and fortunately it all came together. We are thankful for your understanding and continued support.

We are also facing the challenge of hosting the tournament while repairs and improvements are being made to the Pavilion at Roberts Point Park from Hurricane Harvey. Rob Phillips, the marina’s Harbor Master is doing a great job keeping the construction moving while hosting our and other events throughout the summer. The Pavilion may look a little messy, but that will not dampen the spirits of our anglers and our spectators and is exciting to see the improvements being made to our city’s marina and Roberts Point Park.

The Deep Sea Roundup will again be hosting the Nautical Market, located adjacent to the weigh station. While you are waiting for the boats to come to weigh in, be sure to visit the many vendors attending this year’s event.

Parents do not forget to bring a bucket and towel for the piggy perch contest being held Friday and Saturday mornings. As always, the Boatmen’s Association will provide the poles and bait. Black Tie Catering will be offering refreshments on Saturday after the contest while our little anglers are receiving their t shirts. Be sure to stick around for the group picture so your little ones can be part of our tournament history.

Again, thank you all for the continued support. We look forward to another great year. Thank you for joining us and mark your calendars for next year’s Deep Sea Roundup being held July 11th-14th, 2024.
